Description

9 Piece Sand Casting Bundle For Metal Casting (Delft Style) with Gold Silver Bronze Aluminium etc. The bundle contains all the items required for small scale metal casting (jewellery or model making), you just need to add metal and heat. The bundle contains: Small Sand Casting Flask / Mould 4 Pin Type 1 Kg of Petrobond Sand clay Crucible Holder 53mm (2 inch) Ceramic Crucible/ Melting Dish Carbon Stirling Rod 150mm Brass Sprue Forming Mandrel 150g Parting Powder (Fine Calcium Carbonate Powder) Dust Bag for the application of the Parting Powder (150mm x 100mm) 100g Borax Powder (Borax Decahydrate) Flux The two part flask is made from cast iron. It allows the easy duplication of wax, metal, plastic or wooden patterns. The sand casting flask can be filled with molten metal vertically or horizontally, securely by four locating pins. The casting void is approximately 83 x 60 x 36 mm. Petrobond Sand is a high quality oil mix bonded sand suitable for non ferrous metals, including gold, silver, aluminium, bronze silicon bronze, manganese bronze, and brass and copper based alloys. The sand produces a fine surface finish and produces comparable results to delft clay, using the same techniques and tools. It can also be used as an alternative to green sand for larger castings and produces near die cast quality casting. The sand can be reused multiple times. The casting sand is supplied in a sealed plastic bag. The Crucible Holder is 300mm long and can be adjusted for various sizes of Ceramic Crucible/ Melting Dish. Allowing the Ceramic Crucible/ Melting Dish to be securely held when melting and pouring the metal into the mould, the handle reduces heat transfer. The 53mm (2 inch) Ceramic Crucibles/ Melting Dishes can be used with all types of precious and non-precious metal, including Gold, Silver, Platinum, Copper, Brass, Aluminium, Pewter, Bronze and Tin. The brass mandrel is used to form the passage within the sand mould that the molten metal will pass through. The Mandrel is length is 50 mm Max diameter 14 mm and 2.95 mm shank. The Calcium Carbonate Powder Parting Powder prevents prevents the casting sand sticking to the pattern (object being cast) and allows the pattern to be more easily removed from the sand as the mould is made. Also used to ensure that 2 halves of the mould are easily parted. It can be applied using either a fine brush or sprinkled using a finely woven dusting bag (as supplied with the kit). Care should be taken not to use too much in corners and on fine patterns as detail can be lost. The dust bag is made from finely woven material and has built in draw string to keep the parting powder in, measuring 150mm x 100mm.The dusting bag should be part filled and the draw string tied. It is then shaken over and around the pattern and over any surface that easy separation is required from. A fine layer of dust will be deposited over all surfaces. Be careful not to use too much in corners and on fine patterns as detail can be lost. Borax Powder (Borax Decahydrate) flux is used when melting and casting metals, by torch or in a furnace. During the melting process the addition of Borax to the molten metal will help improve the flow of the molten metal flow and prevent oxidisation. The Borax Powder can be also be used to glaze the Ceramic Crucibles/ Melting Dishes to extend their working life. This can be done by heating the crucible and sprinkling Borax on to the inner surface and reheating the crucible until the surface is glazed. Repeat until the whole of the surface is glazed. The carbon (graphite) stirring rod for use when melting metals (gold, silver bronze copper & aluminium) for casting. The rods will help to remove impurities from the molten metal during the stirring process. The rods are made from high density graphite and are 150mm long x 12mm diameter. The rods are brittle and care should be taken when using them. The rod should not be used with platinum as this will contaminate the molten platinum. PLEASE NOTE: THE CERAMIC CRUCIBLE SHOULD BE PRE-HEATED AND GLAZED WITH BORAX ALWAYS USE APPROPRIATE SAFETY PROTECTION WHEN HANDLING MOLTEN METAL! Please see our other items, including Borax and additional Petrobond sand in various quantities.

The Delft Clay Method is a highly refined form of sand casting that substitutes genuine Delft Clay from Holland for ordinary casting sand. Reproduce your original models quickly with this unique Delft clay casting system. Keep the traditional techniques of sand casting alive and well with this re-usable, ultra-fine Dutch clay mix. The process was invented by Hans Karreman, a Dutch goldsmith.
