This is an elaborate technique and very time consuming to perform. Filigree glass was rare. This resulted in it being  suitable for only the uppermost tables of society.  This elaborate form of Filigrana Glass is responsible for the fame of Murano style glass today

The Candy Cane has had a long history beginning approximately 1670. Hard sugar sticks were bent into a Shepherds Staff shape and handed out to children attending holiday services. Around 1900 a Candy maker in Indiana added Green, Red and White stripes to represent Hope, Love and Purity. This gave the Candy Cane its familiar markings. In modern times the Candy Cane continues to change its stripes and colors. This delights old and young alike as the colorful canes carry the constant message of the Good Shepherd.
