Handforged gouge for carving small bowls or cups: This item is made to order, I need 1-3 weeks to ship it off. I start by forging a bar of steel in a small coke forge. After rough shaping of the metal comes grinding into shape, once again into the forge to create the curve. After that blade is quenched and then tempered two times. In the meantime I turn the handle from ash wood by hand on my lathe, hand-forged ferrule gets fitted onto it to prevent cracking of the handle. I drill and burn the slot for the tang. The gouge is set into the wood with a two-component epoxy. After a day it gets water sharpened and polished afterward. The handle is also shaped on the grinder, carefully grinding it into an octagonal shape for better grip, it gets coated with tung oil and beeswax. Final sharpening by hand and the test follows, hollowing a small cup. Blade gets the final polish and it's ready for your workshop. Happy carving!
