These lucky horseshoe nail rings were handcrafted by me - a blacksmith using real horseshoe nails. These Nail rings are cold forged in their natural silver tone. All of my rings are checked for proper size prior to shipping using a steel ring mandrel for U.S standard ring sizes. If you need a partial size contact me and I'll see what I can do :) - not recommended for children under 6 Whether your going for a hipster look, western wear, horse lover, old fashioned romantic or reliving your childhood with a lucky nail ring, our nail rings are right for you. My Horseshoe Nail Rings are all made to size and are a closed circle unlike others who don't properly size to fit but sell "fits most-Adult/Child" or "adjust" an opening in the circle form allowing the nail tip to be exposed separated and open from the nail's head - that can pinch your finger or worse. My ring sizes are all a closed circle and/or have the tips removed. Rings are neatly packaged and attached to a professionally printed double sided information card stock explaining some of the history and lore of the Horseshoe Nail. All shipments come with tracking and are shipped first class in a padded envelope. The Horse Shoe Ring; also called a Prairie Diamond, was first created by young Americans in the 1840's going West with little more than their wagon could hold. These folks had little money to afford a traditional engagement ring so would use their resources at hand, a horseshoe nail worked lovely. You can wear this beautiful and unique moment of history on your own hand, or use as a gift for a friend. Throughout history the horse shoe nail has held a special place- Ben Franklin included; in his almanac, a version of this rhyme – For Want of a Nail: For want of a nail the shoe was lost. For want of a shoe the horse was lost. For want of a horse the rider was lost. For want of a rider the message was lost. For want of a message the battle was lost. For want of a battle the kingdom was lost. And all for the want of a horseshoe nail. A VILLAGE SMITH was shoeing a horse at his forge. His large anvil rang with each blow to the shoes. The Devil, passing by, heard the ringing of the anvil and decided to see what was going on. He stood watching as the blacksmith made a set of new shoes for the waiting horse. When the Devil saw the horse dance and prance in those new shoes, he wanted some shiny new shoes for himself. In disguise he approached the Smith, and demanded a set of shiny new shoes. The Smith recognized that this was the Devil and shod him tightly with small painful horseshoes with long crimped nails. The Blacksmith made the shoeing so painful that the Devil begged for mercy. To this day the sound and sight of an anvil, horseshoes and nails, keeps the Devil away – so they say I hope our items will bring you good fortune and luck ! Please note while I do not guarantee against rusting I would say my handcrafted rings are cold forged and as such wont rust as easily as many untreated hot forged rings will do - These rings should bring years of wear with minimal care (polish). I personally own cold rolled vintage nail rings from Capewell that are over 40 years old
