How Long Should a Candle Wick Be Candle Wick Length Our suggestion is that a candle wick should be approximately five millimetres or one quarter of an inch from the candle wax to the top of the wick. There are different candle wicks available, cotton or wood but the five-millimetre advice is the same for all wicks. You can use scissors to trim wicks, but for the best results use a purpose designed candle wick trimmer to trim your wick. We also suggest that the wick should be trimmed every 4 hours of candle burn time. We have a range of wick trimmers as in the image below. Why You Should Trim Your Candle Wick Candle wicks that become too tall tend to burn too quickly with large flames which can cause sooty smoke. After you have invested in a beautiful candle why let it burn too quickly? Trim the wick regularly and your candle will last longer.   How to Fix Candles with Short Wick? Short candle wicks can be difficult to light. The only answer is to carefully 'dig' out a little wax from the base of the wick to lengthen the wick to the optimum length of 5 millimetres Candle Safety It is always important to treat your soy candles safely and with care. Please note the follow candle care advice  Never leave a burning candle unattended. Place candles on a stable surface away from flammable objects. Keep candles out of reach of children and pets. Extinguish candles before going to bed or leaving the house. Do not place candles too close together.
