Speculation continues to mount regarding a potential new LEGO Zelda-themed set
The popular LEGO Super Mario theme has been active for just over three years since it was first teased on Mario Day 2020. In that time, we’ve seen a whole bunch of interactive sets released to mimic the style of the legendary Nintendo game, leading fans to speculate whether other Nintendo gaming franchises could make their way onto the LEGO release calendar. The Legend of Zelda is an equally revered series which started its first adventure on the NES in 1986 and has since spawned numerous sequels, including the highly acclaimed open-world offering Breath of the Wild in 2017, which embraced the best elements of modern RPGs while remaining faithful to the fantasy world of Hyrule and the atmosphere and gaming mechanics of previous titles. Last month also saw the release of the latest game in the series, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. With the adventures of Link and Princess Zelda continuing to prove a commercial success, it seems increasingly likely that LEGO will embrace a new Zelda theme to sit alongside the Super Mario range. Has The Legend of Zelda LEGO Theme Been Confirmed? The strongest indication of a new Zelda set came from Eurobricks user JeanGreyForever, who posted an extensive description of an upcoming LEGO model on the Eurobricks forum. The user claimed to have seen a new production set of the Great Deku Tree, which would offer collectors a 2-in-1 build with alternate versions of the sentient tree from the classic Ocarina of Time and the modern Breath of the Wild games. The set would also include several versions of Link from both games in minifigure form. When approached by a reputable German LEGO news website, the source claimed that the leak came from a marketing research survey sent to them by LEGO regarding various future sets and manufacturing price references. Supposed images of the new Deku Tree LEGO set have surfaced online, including the above post from Instagram. While there’s strong evidence for the new set, nothing has yet been officially confirmed, and there’s a possibility the above image may be nothing more than a fan-built MOC. Even if the image of the set is genuine, it may only be an early design prototype (which are often scrapped by LEGO before moving into production). Nevertheless, the leaks have been enough to spark excitement for the potential new theme online, proving it could be an exciting venture for the Danish toy company to pursue. What Other Zelda LEGO Sets Could Be Released? While we wait for something official to be announced, we thought it would be fun to pick a few Legend of Zelda locations, scenes and items we think would make great LEGO sets. Don’t forget to let us know in the comments any others you would like to see in brick-built form! Kokiri Forest Village Admittedly, we’re giving into a hint of nostalgia here. The starting town in the Dueling Peaks Region is not somewhere where players spend a huge amount of time. However, thanks to Ocarina of Time, it holds the distinction of being the first introduction to the world of Hyrule for many players. Its tree-like buildings, greenery and waterways would look wonderful in LEGO form. Water Temple The sacred water temple lay under Lake Hylia. In Ocarina of Time, it was one of the most frustrating puzzle-invested locations to get through, though it proved easier in later titles. LEGO designers could have a lot of fun with the water elements in this mystic location. Breath of the Wild Opening Scene No one could forget the beginning of Breath of the Wild, where Link wakes up in the regeneration pool in the Sheikah lab. After completing the tutorial, players see their first view of Hyrule as they exit a tunnel sitting high on a ridge. This stunning view could make an interesting LEGO Art piece worthy of being mounted on a wall. Great Sky Island The tutorial zone in Tears of The Kingdom features some stunningly unique biomes and structures set between gardens and hidden secrets – what could be better for a micro-scale LEGO set or even something bigger? Master Sword The divine magical sword appears in numerous games in the series as hero Link’s ultimate weapon, usually essential to powering up Link and giving them the skills needed to defeat powerful enemies like Gannon. With the distinctive blade shape and wing-tip rain guard on the pommel, this legendary weapon would make a sensational LEGO replica along the lines of weapons such as Marvel Thor’s Hammer 76209.
