Date: 1955Artist: Binder, JosephSize (in): 19” x 14”Size (cm): 48.25 x 35.5Condition: BLinen backed: NoThis is a vintage original 1955 cardboard window card style recruiting sign or poster issued by the U.S. Navy. This poster has an extendable easel arm on the back and features a stylized Mid-Century Modern design of an Atomic Age US Navy sailor raising signal flags. The artist did not sign this poster but noted graphic designer Joseph Binder created a number of very similar posters for the US Navy in the mid 1950s and this one appears to match his style very closely so we attribute this one to him. Text on the poster reads signal for adventure NAVY. The date 1955 is printed in the lower margin along with “NAVPERS 35126”. This is a vintage original cardboard window card style poster. The easel arm on the back of the poster was never extended so this was probably never used. The poster shows moderate handling wear, has a couple small spots and has a small dent on the edge and the top and bottom and on the upper lefthand side. A partial vertical crease shows lightly at the center. The colors are strong and overall condition is very good.
